Wellesley, Mass., October 08, 2015 – Cloud computing is expected to increase considerably as more small businesses move to the system. BCC Research reveals in its new report that as demand builds for Cloud computing, the need for optical systems and components should increase significantly in the near term.
Cloud computing allows application software to be operated through Internet-enabled devices. A Cloud can be public, private or a hybrid of the two. Cloud computing relies on the sharing of resources in order to achieve coherence and economies of scale. Cloud computing has evolved through a number of phases, including Software as a Service (SaaS), grid and utility computing, and application service provision (ASP).
Increasing demand for both high-speed data transmission and storage of large amounts of data are driving growth of the optical systems and componentry market. Other growth factors include rising demand for access to stored data by a large number of users and the scalability and cost effectiveness of Cloud systems across various application segments.
The market for Cloud optical systems and componentry is expected to total $1.2 billion in 2015 and nearly $3.1 billion by 2020, reflecting a five-year (2015-2020) compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.7%. Optical network terminals, the largest market segment, is projected to reach $412.2 million and $867.8 million in 2015 and 2020, respectively, corresponding with a five-year CAGR of 16.1%. Optical amplifiers, the fastest growing segment with a five-year CAGR of 35.5%, is projected to reach $47.3 million and $216.2 million in 2015 and 2020, respectively.

As more businesses shift their processes to the Cloud, demand for Cloud resources is soaring.
