Fluorescence Microscopy Market to See 7.0% Annual Growth Through 2023

Industry Boosted by Growing Miniaturization in the Semiconductor Industry

July 15, 2019

WELLESLEY, Mass., June 15, 2019–Growing miniaturization in the semiconductor industry and a strong increase in life sciences research are two factors driving growth in the global fluorescence microscopy market, according to a report by BCC Research, “Global Fluorescence Microscopy Market.”

The market expects to see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7% through 2023, when it could be worth $768.4 million.

Major players in the market include: Olympus (OCPNF), Leica Microsystems, Nikon (NINOY) and Keyence (KYCCF).

Research Highlights

  • The equipment segment is expected to grow from $443.6 million in 2018 to $584.1 million in 2023 at a CAGR of 5.7%.
  • The software and consumables segment should grow from $104.2 million in 2018 to $184.3 million in 2023 at a CAGR of 12.1%.
  • By region, North America, primarily the U.S., accounted for 33.9% of the market share of the overall global market in 2018.

“With this growing miniaturization in the semiconductor industry, the use of fluorescence microscopy has elevated, says analyst Ritam Biswas. “Fluorescence microscopes are used…for quantifying temperature‐dependent fluorescence quantum efficiency, capturing two-photon optical beam induced current (TOBIC) images and for various other applications. Use of fluorescence microscopes in the semiconductor industry has led to the creation of better ICs and small electronic equipment.”

Limitations for the Fluorescence Microscopy Market

Fluorescence microscopy is very expensive when compared to light and electron microscopy. Basic fluorescence microscopy by Leica costs approximately $16,500, whereas Leica provides its basic light microscopy for approximately $3,000. This vast price difference leads to slower adoption of fluorescence microscopy, especially in the developing regions.
